BC Emergency Management Workshops
After a grueling summer dealing with fires that scorched nearly 3 million acres and displaced roughly 65,000 evacuees, BC Cattlemen’s, has partnered with AgSafe and created an Emergency Management Workshop series that will be travelling the province starting February 2018. These workshops could not take place without the generous contributions from Imperial Oil & the Horse Council of BC.
These workshops will cover topics including:

This workshop will be open to all commodities in the area, as well as non-status farms. It is of the utmost importance to make sure everyone in the community has an opportunity to learn and safeguard their property, creating a proactive approach to emergency management. The workshops are designed to allow participants the opportunity to gain valuable information, without having to leave the ranch for more than a day.

Please join us for hands on learning, delicious food and an opportunity to network with your neighbours and create a proactive approach to natural disaster emergency management.

BC Ministry of Ag: Forage Action Plan
Your feedback and assistance is requested! The BC Ministry of Agriculture has initiated a project to develop a Forage Action Plan and has contracted Ference and Company, an independent consulting company, to conduct the process. To that end, it is vital that forage and forage-related stakeholders are able to provide their thoughts and feedback in terms of the priorities, challenges, and recommended actions regarding forage and forage-related issues in their sector and region. Please consider completing the Forage Action Plan Provincial Survey to ensure that your views are heard and the needs and priorities of the sector are conveyed to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Seed Synergy Collaboration
The Seed Synergy Collaboration, which is made up of six seed sector organizations, is working on designing a proposal for an industry-led and government enabled seed system, in which competition encourages choice for producers and supports seed quality, while maintaining the commitment to safety that has always been inherent to the seed system in Canada. In order to design the best possible next generation seed system it’s important to have input from all members of the sector.

Non Payment of Rent by Terra Energy Corp
A fund has been established from the Court approved sale of some of Terra Energy’s BC assets. Landowners may make a claim for unpaid rent for surface leases. The Fund is held by the Ministry of Natural Gas Development on behalf of the Surface Rights Board. The Fund is limited and will be paid out on a first come first serve basis.

Peace Forage Seeding Tool
Based off of the BC Rangeland Seeding Manual published in 2013, this new online tool goes through an interactive decision making process to help users select forage species to seed, create seed mixtures with a seed mix calculator and even connect with seed suppliers! The development of the tool is spearheaded by the Peace River Forage Association of BC but AB & BC levy grower dollars were put towards creating links between users and seed suppliers!
Check out the tool and it's progress here.
